Pot Size: 5 gallon, 3-6'

Mature Size: 40-60'

Zones: 4 to 8

Soil: Grow in moist, well-drained, fertile loams

Light: Full sun

Bloom Time: June

Native to: Taiwan, Korea and China from Beijing to Yunnan

Benefits: Edible nuts which contain carbohydrates, fat, and protein. Wildlife forage (deer, turkey, squirrel, chipmunk, bear, etc). Pollinator forage. Fragrant flowers, leaves with herbal tea uses

Tips: Trees can tend to become quite wide, so give plenty of space. Chestnuts are heavy feeders, so adding compost and leaf mulch to the root zone each year is a great idea for best production. Chinese Chestnuts are often resistant to the Chestnut Blight fungus, but no chestnut is immune. Consider mud-packing any potential blight cankers on important limbs to weaken the fungus.

Happy Planting!
